AN OLDER, RURAL LOCATION
Located south of town on Brew Bay Road, this property consists of eleven one-story, 2-bedroom cottages, which were built in the 1950’s. Each has a small porch, a private yard and parking near the door. There is no wheelchair access. The land and buildings are owned directly by the Society. The majority of tenants are long-term and most are single individuals.
This property is operated directly by Life Cycle, without benefit of support from outside agencies. The cabins are small and almost all tenants are seniors.
Current Rents: $750 per month
Rents includes only garbage pickup and some grounds maintenance
Heat is provided by baseboard heaters.
Tenants are responsible for the costs of hydro, phone and internet.
Rents are raised annually, in line with provincial regulations.
If you live here and need help paying the rent, you may be eligible for assistance from one of BC Housing’s rental assistance programs (see below). These subsidies are based on annual proof of income and are paid directly to the tenant (not the landlord).
Shelter Aid For Elderly Renters (SAFER) is for people over 60 who are not on income assistance and do not live in subsidized housing.
Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is for working families with a gross household income of $40,000 or less, who have at least one dependent child, and have been employed at some point over the last year.
