Located at the top of Ontario Avenue, just behind the general hospital, this housing was built in 1997 with financial support from BC Housing and on land leased from the City of Powell River

These 31 suites are laid out in four separate, two-story buildings and include a mix of one, two and three bedroom units.  Some units are townhouses and some are apartments.  Four units are fully wheelchair accessible.  Tenants must be seniors (55+) or families.  

Amenities

  • a common building in the centre of the property containing the society office, tenant laundry and meeting room for tenant and board functions; 

  • two play areas;

  • a fenced community garden that was built with a grant from Powell River Community Forest Foundation and assistance from the Rotary Club.  

Eligible Tenants

Life Cycle operates this property through a contract with BC Housing. Under that contract tenants must be seniors (55+), families or single persons with a disability requiring a fully accessible unit and are in receipt of a recognized disability pension or are considered disabled for income tax purposes.

Rents

Ontario Ave. offers some market rent units and these rent are about 10% below market rates. Some rent subsidies are available for tenants who cannot afford the established market rents and who meet BC Housing’s subsidy criteria LINK.

Current Market Rents:

  • 1 bedroom apartment / $925 per month  

  • 2 bedroom apartment / $960  per month

  • 2 bedroom townhouse / $1,050 per month

  • 3 bedroom townhouse / $1,125 per month

    Rents include the cost of heat (gas), garbage pickup and recycling.

    Heat is provided by furnaces and baseboard heaters.

    Tenants are responsible for hydro, phone and internet.

    Rents are raised annually, in line with provincial regulations.

    Note: SAFER & RAP benefits are not available to any tenants at Ontario Ave.

Subsidized Rents

Tenants who qualify for a subsidy pay 30% of their total household income towards rent, with BC Housing paying the balance to Life Cycle. Subsidies are based on proof of income, which must be updated annually.
