About Lifecycle Housing
Founded in 1994, Life Cycle Housing Society is a not-for-profit society committed to providing and advocating for affordable housing for families, singles and persons with disabilities in the City of Powell River and the wider qathet region. We pride ourselves on creating, safe neighbourhoods that foster positive interaction among our tenants and the larger community. The Society has no business operations other than its rental properties and its sources of revenue include tenant rent, some BC Housing rental subsidies, borrowing and grants. We are audited annually.
Life Cycle is managed by a volunteer Board whose members provide direction and support to its employees in areas such as tenant interviews, project management, finances and community relations. Directors and officers are elected at an annual general meeting held in the fall.

COMMUNITY WORK
Life Cycle’s practice is to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other community groups to achieve common objectives. Over the years, the Society has been instrumental in:
Commissioning Housing Needs & Demands studies for the community until the province appropriately assigned this important work to local governments.
Facilitating informal housing roundtable meetings and later on, participating in a formal housing roundtable created by the City of River.
Organizing and/or participating in community-based research organized by others, including planning processes that produced a Community Social Plan for the Powell Region (created by the Diversity Initiative), and the Powell River Regional Social Planning Program prepared by the City of Powell River.
Supporting efforts to bring a supportive housing development to the City.
We also work with many organizations, both formally and informally to promote affordable housing. These include
Provincial agencies such as BC Housing, which provides subsidies for one two of our rental sites and which also provides start up and feasibility funding;
Federal agencies such as CMHC, which has also provided funding for feasibility studies.
Locally, the City of Powell River and the qathet Regional District.
Life Cycle is a member of the First Credit Union, the Powell River Chamber of Commerce and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association.
